The 5th ASEAN5+J Workshop was held on October 26th in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. This workshop was held by industrial associations and academia(Vietnam) of the five ASEAN countries (Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines) and JRAIA.

This workshop is an information exchange meeting on energy efficiency and conservation, refrigerant conversion, and their legal and regulatory trends and industry responses, etc. for air conditioners.

The workshop this year was the fifth time, following Kobe in 2018, Bangkok, Thailand in 2019, Malaysia (online) in 2021, and Jakarta, Indonesia in 2022. It was hosted by VISRAE, Vietnam (co-hosted with JRAIA). Approximately 40 participants gathered at the venue.

Following the opening remarks by Dr. Ta Quang Ngoc, President of VISRAE (Vietnam Society of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers), and Mr. Tetsuji Okada, President of JRAIA, Ms. NGUYEN Dang Thu Cuc, National Ozone Coordinator of Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam gave a special speech entitled "Current status of Montreal Protocol Implementation in Vietnam".

After that, participants reported on refrigerant conversion and energy conservation efforts in each country, in the order of Japan (JRAIA), Vietnam (VISRAE), Malaysia (MACRA), Thailand (FTI-Aircon Club), Indonesia (GABEL), and the Philippines (PAIA). Followed by a Q&A session led by Dr. Trinh Quoc Dung of VISRAE.

This was a face-to-face with a webcast meeting similar to last year, and could exchange of views lively.

Finally, the workshop came to a successful conclusion with closing remarks from Dr. Ta Quang Ngoc, President of VISRAE and Mr. Tetsuji Okada, President of JRAIA.

The next workshop will be held in the autumn of 2024, hosted by PAIA of the Philippines and JRAIA.
